Starbucks Starbucks everywhere and no espresso to drink

You can’t throw a stick in New York City without hitting a Starbucks. They are on every other street corner for heavens sake.

I had to go to Newark, NJ for a couple of days, then Philadelphia for a day and then New York City for another 4 days last week. It was quite the hectic week. I was out to meet with some storage venders and attend a storage system conference in NY. For those of you that don’t know what a storage system is, think computer hard drives in stacks the size of a refrigerator.

We spent the evening walking around Time Square, Radio City etc. One thing I did notice was the abundance of Starbucks. There was one every other corner, it was ridicules. The were always busy so I had to give one a try. Nothing special, you’re typical Starbucks. You could make a killing in the city with a good café making real espresso and espresso based drinks. Unfortunately, the floor space is probably off the chart expensive.

On the positive side, the sushi was wonderful.

And the Toys-R-Us store in Time Square is so large, they have rides in it!

And a life size animatronics T-Rex.

The rents are why you have to go downtown for good espresso (9th St, Joe's) or Brooklyn (Gimme!, Grumpy's).

Doubtful there will ever be great coffee/espresso in midtown unless some restaurant decides to get serious about it. But unlikely we'll ever see a standalone.

I agree. This city is BRUTAL on rents, zoning, codes, etc. Must be nice for Starbucks not to have to worry about actually making MONEY in every shop. Too bad you didn't get a chance to say hi.
